New Mexico Plumber Continuing Education FAQs

Yes, New Mexico plumbers must complete 16 hrs of continuing education every 3 years. This includes 8 hrs specific to code changes & 8 hrs may be of other industry-related approved course work.

You must work under a licensed journeyman plumber for two years and have 4000 hours of experience. You must then send an application packet to PSI with the following:

  1. Complete, legible, signed and notarized Journeyman Certificate Application.
  2. Complete, legible, signed and notarized work experience verification form for EACH classification you wish to test for. Use one form per employer/affiant verifying your work experience, and use the work experience verification form specific to those classifications. There is a work experience form for Mechanical/Plumbing trades, and there is a work experience form for Electrical trades.
