This course is approved for Florida contractors to cover workers' compensation. The course covers workers’ compensation, and includes a brief history of workers’ compensation, as well as basic requirements, self insurance, exemptions, and enforcements.

Description

This course focuses on workers’ compensation insurance and the related requirements and obligations of employees, employers, and insurance carriers. The topics addressed in this course include the benefits available to employees, re-employment services, reporting work-related injuries, exemptions for corporate officers, enforcement of workers’ comp requirements, how workers’ comp insurance is acquired, registration of insurance carriers, and the difference between standard insurers and self-insurers.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the course, licensees will be able to:

• Know what must be done when an employee is injured while on the job

• Explain what workers’ compensation benefits are available to employees

• Ascertain if an employer possesses workers’ compensation coverage

• Access re-employment services

• Report a work-related injury or illness

• Acquire and maintain workers’ compensation insurance

• Provide proof of workers’ compensation coverage

• Ensure subcontractors possess workers’ compensation coverage

• Explain when and how corporate officers can be exempt from workers’ compensation coverage requirements

• Understand the actions the Department of Financial Services can take to enforce workers’ compensation regulations

• Register as a workers’ compensation insurance carrier

• Be approved as either a private or government self-insurer
